Tuxy Session

Just wanted to share a photo shoot I did with one of my fur babies, Tuxy. Jasper is usually the one to hog the camera time, but ever since Tuxy turned up homeless on our doorstep last year I've been waiting for the right time to do a portrait session with him, so here are the results :)

The first shot needs to be redone. I used the dodge tool and left a couple of spots, which for some reason I'm unable to remove in photoshop, but just sharing for blog purposes.

On that note, I want to encourage you photographers to volunteer your services to animal shelters. Professional pictures really help these animals get adopted and there is a shortage of photographers to help. Some of these animals get euthanized daily. Not only are you helping them, which is the main goal here, but at the same time you're promoting your photography by getting your name out there, maybe even a tax write-off.

Images from my travels to come soon!

I'm back!

I'm not quite in hibernation mode yet, really I've just been catching up on sleep and having the odd few lazy days, doing nothing but laying in front of the tv, which to be honest everyone needs to do that once in a while, so I don't feel guilty about it :)

I'll have an update for you soon, along with images, as I have much to share! It was an exhausting trip, but worth it. I couldn't wait to get home and sleep in my own bed again!

On another note, I've had a couple of requests from photographers who want to pick my brain. One suggested I do a blog post to share advice with those who are new to the industry, on the business side and how to work with a model. I'm happy to do this, though it will likely be very lengthy, requiring a lot of thought, and knowing me there'll be something I forget to add and end up editing the post several times, lol.

Do any of you have any questions for me that you want answered? I would be happy to include them in that post.

For now, here's an image from my recent trip. Taken by BM Photography. Hope you like :)......

As promised, here are some images to share.

I love that I still get excited seeing the results of collaborations, something I've done since my very first photo shoot :) To me there's just something unique about every shoot I do. Everyone has a different eye, a different idea on how to capture me. It's what makes every image special and no image is ever alike for this reason.

I remember occasional emails from the past where someone would pinpoint a specific image in my portfolio, where they felt they couldn't "compete" with what the photographer did. To me it shouldn't be about that, because that image was unique to that collaboration and the moment has passed. They do end up surprising themselves when they end up creating images with a different moment that are unique to them and the model. This is how it should be :) I don't like to imitate anyone else's images for this reason, because it was their moment and now it's time to have our moment :)

Ok, now I'm rambling. This was just in my head, so my fingers did the typing :)

Here are some pics from my last east coast trip, taken by Risque412. I just love his perspective, the way he captured the height of this location and how the eye is drawn through the image. He did send me the color versions but these just had to be shown in b&w. I think they just pop.

Hope you like :)

Time to clear them away and finally get to a post on here.

Sorry for my disappearing act. My winter hibernation spilled over to early Spring and I've been using the time to catch up on various things, unfortunately not blog related though!

I'm back touring the east coast and Midwest next month, a 3.5 week tour. I always get anxious the week before, knowing how much I took on, but once I arrive I feel back in the routine and get focused on the trip.

I have so many images to share on here. I think it wise to share them before my crazy trip, so will get to that soon.

Hope all are well and still checking back here.

Images and updates coming soon!

God Bless.

Merry Christmas!!

Happy Birthday to Jesus & Merry Christmas to everyone!!

I hope you all have a great Christmas and new year!

It's hard to believe that another year has gone by. It's my tradition to do an annual snow nude at Christmas. Here are the nudes of Christmas past ;) I'll be sending out my new winter nude in the new year, so look out for it.

It's been a great year of travel, working with new and familiar faces. I couldn't do this without you all, so thank you!

Don't forget the reason for the season. God took on flesh and dwelt among us in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus, the savior, was born during lambing season. One of His names happens to be "the Lamb of God" and it was planned for Him to be born at the same time as the other lambs. Despite this we remember His birth in December. An ant can better communicate with an ant. God became man so He could communicate with us, teach us, but ultimately provide a way - the only way - for us to spend eternity with Him. Jesus was born to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift. He has offered the gift but we need to accept it. Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us"

So if He had decided to not come in the flesh then there would be no way for us to be forgiven. Amazing. This is the reason for the season.

Anyway, I hope you all have a great Christmas and I hope to see you in the new year!

Love & Best Wishes,

Kate* xx

In Memory of Thea....

I'm both sad and stunned to hear the news that Thea Coleman has passed away. She was a great person and a talented model, photographer, creative. It's very sad and she will be missed.

We first met in 2008 when we were both flown to the Bahamas for an assignment. We kept in touch over the years and ended up working together in Europe at the same event. I got to know her a bit, although we were not very close. I ended up working with her boyfriend in LA at the time she had begun focusing on photography herself, so I posed for her. We were hoping to work together again at some point.

She passed away on the 25th July. The police believed it was an accidental drowning in the bath tub. There are so many thoughts one can have about that. It strikes me as strange, because people don't usually drown in a bath, unless she had a few drinks which put her to sleep. Hopefully more details will be shared soon.

She was very talented and had a bright future ahead. Her work was already hanging in galleries in the US and overseas. She died way too soon.

Here are some of the images she took of me. She gave me a manicure for that first image, attention to the details, to get that perfect shot. The nude reminds me of an Edward Weston.

Gone, but not forgotten.
