Merry Christmas to everyone!!!

It seems like only yesterday that I was sending out last year's e-card. Time has flown again, but it's been a wonderful year, collaborating with new and familiar faces. I really couldn't do this without you all :)

As you know, my tradition is to shoot an annual snow nude. The Phoenix winters are usually 65F, so I have to travel 3 hours north for snow! But please keep an eye on my blog, as I have plans to shoot it towards the end of this month:

I hope you all have a great Christmas & hope to see you in the new year!

Below are the nudes of Christmas past ;)

Love & Best Wishes,

Kate* xx

Heading East...

In just 2 weeks I'll be packing my bags again and heading someplace cooler. It'll be a nice change for me after the temperatures we've had here. I'm so glad we're over the monsoon, which brought humidity and every type of bug you can imagine out of hiding and into our house. Fortunately our two cats love to hunt the crickets, so they didn't last long, but I got the task of cleaning up all the scattered limbs!

What I miss about England are the seasons, though fellow Brits would disagree with me about getting any kind of summer season over there, lol, but autumn (fall) is so beautiful. To prove how deprived I've been I once pulled over in NY to capture the golden brown leaves floating across the road, something that I've never taken the time to appreciate before. The east coast gets such pretty arrays of browns, golden and red tones. Some photographers are reluctant to stick me outside in November, but I jump at the chance to work in those autumn scenes. You've seen my snow nudes, so fall is no problem :)

I wish I could share the video. It's on my old phone which I haven't backed up to dropbox. Will share in another post.

So here are the dates of my trip coming up in Nov, for the east coast and Midwest. I have limited time slots left, so please get in touch if you want to catch me on this trip. I'm open to both studio and location, or both, whatever you have in mind.

I have a backlog of images to share from some of my trips, it's about time they saw the light of day, so check back for those :)

5th-11th: NYC, Upstate NY, NJ, PA - 3 time slots left
12th-16th: Maryland, Virginia, DC - 2 time slots left
17th-19th: North Carolina, TN - 2 left
20th/21st: Ohio - 3 left
22nd-26th: Michigan, Illinois - 2 left

The Shining Light :)

Here are some shots from a session with Chris Maxwell. I always enjoy collaborating with him, because of how creative he is with his lighting. You always feel like he gives a lot of thought to every shoot he does, so no two shoots are alike. He's always so well prepared with general concepts too, such fluid efforts where I can bring my style to the scene. I love when you connect with someone creatively.

My inspiration with the last two shots was "Light of the world," based on these scriptures...

John 8:12: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Matthew 5:14-15: "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house"

John 9:5: "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Sorry for the delay in sharing these. More to post soon :).....

Tuxy Session

Just wanted to share a photo shoot I did with one of my fur babies, Tuxy. Jasper is usually the one to hog the camera time, but ever since Tuxy turned up homeless on our doorstep last year I've been waiting for the right time to do a portrait session with him, so here are the results :)

The first shot needs to be redone. I used the dodge tool and left a couple of spots, which for some reason I'm unable to remove in photoshop, but just sharing for blog purposes.

On that note, I want to encourage you photographers to volunteer your services to animal shelters. Professional pictures really help these animals get adopted and there is a shortage of photographers to help. Some of these animals get euthanized daily. Not only are you helping them, which is the main goal here, but at the same time you're promoting your photography by getting your name out there, maybe even a tax write-off.

Images from my travels to come soon!

I'm back!

I'm not quite in hibernation mode yet, really I've just been catching up on sleep and having the odd few lazy days, doing nothing but laying in front of the tv, which to be honest everyone needs to do that once in a while, so I don't feel guilty about it :)

I'll have an update for you soon, along with images, as I have much to share! It was an exhausting trip, but worth it. I couldn't wait to get home and sleep in my own bed again!

On another note, I've had a couple of requests from photographers who want to pick my brain. One suggested I do a blog post to share advice with those who are new to the industry, on the business side and how to work with a model. I'm happy to do this, though it will likely be very lengthy, requiring a lot of thought, and knowing me there'll be something I forget to add and end up editing the post several times, lol.

Do any of you have any questions for me that you want answered? I would be happy to include them in that post.

For now, here's an image from my recent trip. Taken by BM Photography. Hope you like :)......

As promised, here are some images to share.

I love that I still get excited seeing the results of collaborations, something I've done since my very first photo shoot :) To me there's just something unique about every shoot I do. Everyone has a different eye, a different idea on how to capture me. It's what makes every image special and no image is ever alike for this reason.

I remember occasional emails from the past where someone would pinpoint a specific image in my portfolio, where they felt they couldn't "compete" with what the photographer did. To me it shouldn't be about that, because that image was unique to that collaboration and the moment has passed. They do end up surprising themselves when they end up creating images with a different moment that are unique to them and the model. This is how it should be :) I don't like to imitate anyone else's images for this reason, because it was their moment and now it's time to have our moment :)

Ok, now I'm rambling. This was just in my head, so my fingers did the typing :)

Here are some pics from my last east coast trip, taken by Risque412. I just love his perspective, the way he captured the height of this location and how the eye is drawn through the image. He did send me the color versions but these just had to be shown in b&w. I think they just pop.

Hope you like :)
